Pembrokeshire Coastal Path 2017

Stats for Today: 15.5 miles 910 meters 49,000 steps 2 ciders, 1 G&T We finally made it to the end of our adventure!  Day 14, the last day of the walk and from all reports was supposed to be the most difficult.  Well, the Path threw everything at us today that it had.  We crossed the bridge from Newport over the Afon Nyfer River and headed back up the river through the dunes and climbed up the cliffs.  The weather was supposed to be just cloudy today but we immediately climbed right up into the clouds onto the cliffs and found that the winds blowing the moisture in the clouds on us felt a lot like rain.  So much so that those of us who did not put rain gear on were soaked to the skin within the first hour of walking.  Fortunately, the temperature was a mild 17 C so we didn't freeze.  Since we couldn't see much up in the clouds for most of the morning, we marched on at a fast clip and had several miles behind us by the time the clouds ...

Today's Stats: 14 miles Ascent - 800 meters Steps 37,000 steps 2 ciders, 1 G&T So, here we are at the harbour front in Goodwick (pronounced Goodick), ready to set out for day 13, the second last day of our hike.  The weather doesn't look too promising with low cloud and mist along the cliffs and the threat of showers today . . . but we are prepared and our spirits are high! In fact, during the first hour we encountered light rain and had to switch to rain gear, which we then had off and on a few times during the day. On the way out of town and through Fishgard, the neighboring town, we saw a tiled mural depicting the original Moby Dick Film from the 1950's . . . .  which was filmed right here in Fishgard. As we gained elevation we could see the old harbour of Fishgard which we would then hike down to, then back up again to the cliffs. Statistics for the Day: 25,000 steps 9 1/2 miles Ascent of 610 meters 1 1/2 ciders After another hearty breakfast, we all piled into a taxi for a quick ride back to the start point for today at Pwll Deri for our walk back to Goodwick Sands and another night at The Ferry Boat Hotel.  The day looked a bit grey but the forecast was for improvement as time went on. A look back at Pwll Deri When we returned to the coast, the winds had picked up and we had a cool north breeze in our faces for the first few hours to wake us up.  We hiked around the headway at Strumble Head always with lighthouse ahead of us.  We had been seeing this lighthouse ahead yesterday for most of the day in the distance so it felt good to finally be upon it.
