Day 1 Le Grand Depart...formerly known as...The Gathering: Cardiff/Tenby
I am calling the next two days "Le Grand Depart", for two reasons. First of all in honour of the Tour de France, which does not start in France but rather Dusseldorf this year. Humm...why is it still called the Tour de France I wonder?
We spent an overnight at the Dusseldorf airport in a room fitted with a full kitchen and board room...bit of a waste for just a couple of hours. Here we saw all the tour teams and support crews preparing for the start of the race on Saturday morning. Quite exciting for the city I expect. The second reason for the name is that this is our "Grand Depart" for 2017's adventure with the 6:00 am flight to Cardiff, Wales.

Finally back with the crew....I think we'll find a pub for a celebratory 60'th Birthday drink for Leslie!!!

Light Packers????? And they are
off to Tenby!
Quaint colourful houses.
A wee bit chilly to swim, at least for us.
Fort protecting Tenby at low tide . . not accessible at high tide.
Low tide boat mooring.
Very large and sometimes aggressiveshithawks seagulls (if you have fries)
Eli Musk's electric cars are no match for Tenby's "bitch dust."
Local Tenby brewery. Slipped in the back door for a taste.

The train ride took about 4 hours with one transfer (including a pub stop) before we arrived into Tenby.
Below are several photos that we took during our wander through town. It was just as expected . . the perfect British seaside resort filled with tourists on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

After walking through beautiful Tenby, full of local tourists on a Sunday evening, we found a nice small restaurant, carb'd up on pasta, beer, wine and fish, ready for our own "Grand Depart" on Monday morning. Tomorrow should be around 16 miles with approx. 800 meters of ascent. Looking forward to it. Hope our feet are up for it!
