Day 11 Aberdraw to Pwll Deri

Today's Stats:
10 miles
Ascent 460 meters
27,000 steps

So after a nice night in the local Trefin pub, the Ship Inn (the only restaurant/pub in the little village....surprisingly the food was superb!) we awoke in our characterful B&B to a wonderful home cooked breakfast.  The eggs were from their own hens out back and were the best eggs (and best prepared) we experienced so far this trip . . . and we have had some good breakfasts.

We set out from Trefin to the coast to hook up with the coastal path again.  On the way out of town, we stopped at a local cafe for flapjacks, scones and assorted other goodies to go. Soon after leaving we rounded the headland towards the first inlet at Aber Castle, climbing up and down through the now familiar inlets and cliffs.

Our exit picture with goodies!

 We say good-bye to Trefin

A look back along the coast we have walked

The heather and wildflowers, always present along the path

This is another example of a Neolithic Burial Chamber, this time part of a larger passage tomb and when originally built the structure would have been encased in a boulder heap and that all covered with earth.  This one is called Careg Sampson by the locals and legend has it that Sampson placed the capstone in position using his pinky finger . . . .

Girl power strikes again . . . . look out Sampson!

Some of the dramatic coves we passed today

And just for a change of pace, here is a pastoral scene from the other side of a mountain we were traversing today.  The white dots are sheep and horses.

That's Don part way down a ridge, overlooking a gorge we were hiking down

The girls enjoying the view of Pwrll Deri, the bay just in front of our destination today.  The caves and inlets in Pwrll Deri were amazing!

Pwrll Deri again

The entrance to a pub as we entered the village we were staying in tonight, Goodwick.

Since Pwrll Deri, our destination today, is a remote location with no accommodations, we hiked up to the road and caught the local bus to our hotel in Goodwick.  After checking in, we made our way to a pub in town called the Rose & Crown where we had a good hearty meal of local, fresh food (including freshly picked potatoes) and Welsh ales and back to the Ferry Boat Inn for a good night's sleep.
