Wow! What a fantastic first day of walking! Weather could not have been better today. The entire day was in the low to mid 60's with cloud cover, sun and no rain the entire day.
We walked approximately 15 miles today with ascents of a little over 800 meters and a fitbit count of over 40,000 steps for the day. The scenery was fantastic, alternating between woodland, open cliffs and shoreline.
We began the walk at the trailhead in Amroth (see marker above), climbed through the woods onto the Cliffs and down through the small resort town of Saundersfoot where we stopped at a bakery and bought our lunch for the day. We then climbed back up on the ridge and made our way back through Tenby. From Tenby, we walked along he beach as far as we could until we were detoured by the active military rifle range at Penally. From there we continued on around Giltar Point to the hidden beach at Skrinkle Haven, past the air force training base at Manorbier Camp which has been in use since WWI. During it's early days it was used a site for airships to hunt for submarines, then later and still today as an anti-aircraft gunnery training facility, ie. surface to air missiles.
We then found our Inn for the night at Castlemead in the tiny village of Manorbier where we had a great dinner and drinks before falling into bed. Here are some pics from the day.
Interesting parking job.
Picturesque village of Tenby.
